Living at Home-Base
Home-Base serves a large number of young people from across southern Africa. As we work with the young people, we try to find the best options for them to be accommodated close to the institution where they are studying. We provide residential accommodation to some of the young people who are studying at institutions in Johannesburg. Our dream is to grow our space to look after more students and we are looking to source a larger property where we can house many more.
We currently house 4 students in two cottages on our property in Robin Hills, Johannesburg. We have a Girls and Boys Cottage that can house two girls and two boys each. Each cottage has one or two bedrooms, its own bathroom and kitchen/lounge area where they prepare food and socialise. We also have a large outside common area with couches and book shelves where the young people can hang out together, play foosball or table tennis and enjoy each other’s company.
We provide these young people with food and all of their necessities and have regular meetings with them to review their personal progress as well as their academic progress. We also facilitate connecting them with tutors, mentors and people willing to pour into their lives and have a steady stream of visitors coming to add value and touch their lives. Students do a range of chores as part of the household and are required to not only do their own cooking, but clean their cottages.
The property is centrally located close to transport routes and a large shopping mall, which makes their life here comfortable. We encourage these young people to become increasingly independent, to be good stewards of what they have in their hands and to care for their environment.
